Sebha thieves net LD 2 million

Tripoli, 25 May 2013:

Staff from the Central Bank’s branch in Sebha and from the National Commercial Bank’s (NCB) branches operating in the region staged a protest on Thursday after thieves stole a reported LD 2 million. The money was being taken from the NCB’s regional Sebha headquarters to another branch.

Libya’s high oil income stifles commercial bank lending to the private sector – IMF Working Paper

An IMF Working Paper entitled “Searching for the Finance-Growth Nexus in Libya” written by Serhan Cevik and Mohammad Rahmati concludes that there is “a negative correlation between the hydrocarbon windfall and commercial bank lending to the private sector”.

Shuwail must stay say Jebel Akhdar police and CSOs

The police in Jebel Akhdar District together with local elders and civil society institutions in the area have called on the Prime Minster, Ali Zeidan, to reject the resignation of Interior Minister Ashour Shuwail. They also called on the minister to withdraw his resignation.

Plan to secure Tripoli ready and awaiting GNC approval: security spokesman

A plan to ensure the security of Tripoli has finally been prepared by Tripoli’s Security Chamber and the Joint Force Operations Room. It was forwarded to the General National Congress and Prime Minister’s office on Wednesday, according to a source who was involved in the plan’s formation.
